Kings Want to Bring Love to Sactown

The Sacramento Kings are making it known that they want to at least try to put a solid product on the floor for the fans not only for next season, but in the future, as they get ready to move into their new arena.

According to a report on Yahoo Sports by Marc J. Spears, the Kings are willing to put together a package that would bring Kevin Love to Sacramento without the guarantee that Love would sign an extension.

Most people would see a report like that and think that the Kings are nuts to attempt a deal for a franchise player like Kevin Love without giving themselves any guarantees that he is going to stay. What people don’t know is that when a player comes to Sacramento to play for the Kings, they are truly treated like royalty.

New Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, and general manger Pete D’Alessandro, have had no qualms about taking risks with their personnel decisions. They traded for Rudy Gay knowing he had a high price tag going into the 2014-15 season. Also they extended DeMarcus Cousins despite his temperamental nature to a 4-year/$62 million contract.

The Kings fan base has to like that the front office is willing to do whatever it takes to make the team relevant. The Kings have not made the playoffs since the 2004-05 season and have gone through eight different coaches since then.

Vivek Ranadive seems to be determined to win, and with Mayor Kevin Johnson fully supporting the Kings and doing whatever he can to make Sacramento a great place for NBA Basketball, the city literally is behind the Kings becoming a winner also.

It would be interesting to see if Sacramento will be able to pull off a deal to bring in Kevin Love. A frontline of Rudy Gay (if he stays for $19.3 million), DeMarcus Cousins and Kevin Love would give Sacramento one of the most imposing frontcourts in the NBA. It would also say a lot about the direction that the Kings front office wants to take this franchise. This is going to be an interesting offseason.
